Race weekend
British Grand Prix by helicopter
Practice on Friday, qualifying on Saturday, the race on Sunday. Here is how a helicopter fits the 2027 British Grand Prix weekend, and what to organise early.
Silverstone lists the 2027 British Grand Prix for 2 to 4 July 2027, though the Formula 1 calendar is still described as provisional. From London Heliport at Battersea the flight is about 20 to 25 minutes. On race weekend the circuit manages helicopter arrivals through its own heliport operation, so slots are limited and worth requesting early.
When is the 2027 British Grand Prix?
Silverstone's news page for the 2027 calendar says the British Grand Prix returns to the circuit from Friday 2 to Sunday 4 July 2027. The same page calls the full Formula 1 list provisional, so treat the dates as planning dates until the calendar is final. Silverstone's own events page lists the weekend from 1 July, which is the day the circuit starts to fill.
| Day | Date (2027, provisional) | What typically happens |
|---|---|---|
| Friday | 2 July | Practice sessions |
| Saturday | 3 July | Qualifying |
| Sunday | 4 July | Race day |
Session times are set by the series nearer the date, so we do not quote them here. Check the official timetable once it is published, then ask us to build the flight around it. The wider picture is on our events and track days page.
Bookings are already being taken for the 2027 British Grand Prix. Slots on race weekend are limited, so ask early.
How are helicopter landings handled on race weekend?
On event days the circuit manages helicopter arrivals through its own heliport operation. That means slots are limited, they are planned and confirmed well ahead, and every landing is subject to landing permission and site suitability. We cannot promise a particular minute on the day until the slot is confirmed.
The scale explains why. In April 2025 Silverstone announced a new bespoke heliport terminal with over 8,500 sq ft of covered space, and said it expected the heliport to welcome more than 6,000 passengers on over 1,500 flights during the British Grand Prix weekend. Those were Silverstone's own planning figures for that year's race. Read more on our Silverstone heliport and landing page.
Because demand concentrates on a few days, the earlier a request reaches us, the more choice there is on arrival and departure times.

Which day should you fly, and what happens after you land?
Silverstone says there is no drop-off facility at the circuit and that the circuit is very busy on race days. Onward travel from the heliport to your hospitality area or grandstand depends on your ticket and the arrangements the circuit makes for the weekend, and those details are confirmed closer to the date. We will tell you what applies to your booking when we quote, rather than guess.
The same applies to the return. Plan your departure slot with the end of the day in mind, and keep a margin for queues and for the circuit's own timetable. Our day by helicopter page walks through a typical timeline from London.
Which day should you fly in?
The right day depends on what the trip is for, and there is no single answer.
- Friday: the practice day. Some guests choose it to see cars on track before the weekend builds, while others prefer to save the trip for the main event.
- Saturday: qualifying decides the grid, so it suits guests who want to see the lap times that set up the race.
- Sunday: the race itself, and the busiest day for arrivals and departures. Request a slot as early as you can.
- Multi-day: some guests fly in for more than one day, which can be arranged as separate legs.
Whichever day you pick, tell us your ticket or hospitality package when you enquire. It affects where you need to be and when.
How long is the flight, and how does it compare with the road?
Silverstone's own guidance for the race weekend is useful context. It says parking is very limited near the venue, the roads to the car parks get very busy, and many car parks are on grass up to a 30-minute walk from the main gates, so visitors should allow at least an extra hour. It also says there is no drop-off facility at the circuit.
| Question | By road or public transport | By helicopter |
|---|---|---|
| Journey from London | Depends on traffic, which is heavy on race days | About 20 to 25 minutes in the air from Battersea |
| Parking | Very limited, some car parks a long walk away | No car park journey for the flight itself |
| Arrival time | Allow at least an extra hour, says Silverstone | Set by your confirmed slot |
| Availability | Shuttle buses and park and ride run from nearby towns, booked in advance | Slots are limited and subject to landing permission |
Silverstone also lists shuttle buses from nearby towns and stations at £10 per person per day for a return ticket, and park and ride sites at £8 per person per day plus a vehicle pass. We mention them so that you can compare honestly. A helicopter costs more, and it is not the right choice for every guest.
Who tends to choose a helicopter for the race?
Guests usually choose to fly for one of a few reasons. A host may want to bring clients to a hospitality area without a long journey. A family may want a memorable start to a birthday or anniversary weekend. A business owner may need to be at the circuit in the morning and at a dinner in London that evening. A team may want to keep a tight timetable for a group of four.
In each case the questions are the same: how many people, which day, and how firm are your ticket arrangements. If your group is larger than four, ask us about other aircraft in the fleet or splitting the group across two flights. Our London Battersea page explains the departure point.
It also helps to say whether you want a one-way flight or a return, and whether anyone in the party has reduced mobility. We take those details at the quote stage so that nothing is a surprise at the pad.
How long does the flight take from London?
From London Heliport at Battersea to Silverstone is about 48 nautical miles, or 88 km, in a straight line. Battersea Helicopter quotes 20 to 25 minutes in the air, depending on the helicopter, the routing and the wind. Compare that with a road journey on a Grand Prix weekend, when the roads around the circuit are very busy and Silverstone warns that parking is limited and many car parks are on grass up to a 30-minute walk from the gates.
- Distance: about 48 nautical miles (88 km).
- Time in the air: 20 to 25 minutes.
- Indicative price: from £14,950 + VAT return, all-inclusive, varying by date, helicopter and passenger numbers.
The full breakdown is on our helicopter to Silverstone cost page. Flying from elsewhere in the UK is covered on flying from the UK.

What should you book first?
A sensible order for the 2027 weekend is below.
- Tickets or hospitality. Your package decides where you need to be.
- The helicopter slot. Send us the date, passenger numbers and departure point as soon as you know them.
- The return. Ask for the departure window at the same time as the arrival.
- A fallback. If the Formula 1 dates move or a slot is not available, we will tell you early.
If the flight is cancelled because of the weather, you pay nothing. Every flight remains subject to landing permission, and prices depend on the date, the helicopter and the passenger count. When you are ready, send an enquiry and we will come back with a quote.
