Race Sunday by helicopter: arrival, seat and flight home
Race Sunday is the busiest day at the circuit. Here is how to plan the part our day-by-helicopter guide only touches: the arrival, the walk to your seat and the departure.
On race day, plan backwards from the moment you need to be in your seat. Allow for the flight, the circuit's own transfer from the heliport and a margin. Silverstone states there is no drop-off facility and that roads and parking are very busy. On event days the circuit manages helicopter arrivals, so slots are limited and confirmed in advance.
How should you plan race Sunday backwards?
The most useful habit is to start from the end of the morning, not the start. Decide the time you need to be in your seat or hospitality area, then subtract the transfer from the heliport, the flight and the time you want at the heliport beforehand. That gives a departure time in London, and the rest follows.
Our day by helicopter page gives the general timeline for any event. This guide goes further on the three points that decide race day: the slot, the ground, and the way home. For the dates and what happens on each day of the weekend, see British Grand Prix by helicopter. In 2027 the race is listed for Sunday 4 July, although the Formula 1 calendar is provisional.

What time should you land, and who decides?
On event days the circuit manages helicopter arrivals through its own heliport operation. That means the arrival slot is allocated by the circuit, not chosen freely by us or by you. Slots are limited, they are planned and confirmed in advance, and each landing is subject to landing permission and site suitability.
Practical points follow from that.
- Give a window, not a minute. A window of an hour or so lets us ask for the nearest available slot.
- Ask early. More choice is available before the heliport timetable fills.
- Leave a margin. Silverstone says to allow at least an extra hour for road travel on race days. The same instinct applies to a flight: do not plan to land only minutes before the session you care about.
- Expect confirmation in writing. We confirm the slot before you pay, not on the morning.
- Share the plan. Send your schedule to the person meeting you at the circuit so everyone works to the same times.
If a slot is not available at your first choice, we say so early and offer the nearest alternative, so that you can adjust your plan rather than learn on the day.
The detail of how landings work is on our Silverstone heliport and landing page.
How do you get from the heliport to your seat?
Silverstone states that it does not provide a drop-off facility at the circuit. A helicopter guest does not use that route. After landing, a handling team meets you and escorts you to a waiting vehicle for the transfer. On Grand Prix weekend, our sister-site guidance describes passengers being transferred from the heliport terminal to their hospitality or grandstand, and a walk of around five to ten minutes between the pad and the paddock or grandstands depending on where your ticket sits.
The exact route depends on the event and your ticket, and the circuit sets the arrangements for the weekend. So tell us the following when you enquire.
- Your ticket type: grandstand, general admission or hospitality.
- The entrance or area you are heading for, if you know it.
- The mobile number of the person who will meet you.
- Anyone with reduced mobility, children or luggage that needs thought.
We confirm what applies to your booking in the quote, rather than guess.
It helps to picture the morning as a chain with a few fixed links. You arrive at the heliport in London about ten minutes before departure. You fly for roughly 20 to 25 minutes. You land on the circuit's heliport, are met by the handling team, and travel on to your area. Each link has a little slack built in, and the slack is what protects the one fixed point, which is the session or moment you want to see. If you add a coffee stop, a hospitality check-in or a group photograph, add the time to the chain rather than hoping it fits.
For larger parties, agree one person as the contact for the day. That person carries the schedule email and the mobile number for the handling team, and keeps the group together if anyone is delayed.
What should you carry on race day?
Luggage space in a helicopter is limited and varies with the aircraft and the number of passengers. A soft bag each is simple. If you want to bring something larger, mention it when you ask for the quote.
| Item | Why it helps |
|---|---|
| Photo identification | Worth carrying for each passenger |
| Event ticket or booking reference | Decides where the transfer takes you |
| Layers and a waterproof | A heliport and a circuit are open air and weather changes |
| Charged phone and your schedule email | It carries the heliport address, directions and the contact number |
We email your schedule at least 48 hours before the flight, and we check the forecast with you the day before and on the morning. If the flight is cancelled because of the weather, you pay nothing.

How should you plan the flight home?
The return is the part guests most often leave until the morning, and it is the part most worth deciding in advance. We agree the pick-up time with you beforehand and keep it flexible where the venue allows. The fixed points are weather, daylight and crew duty limits, plus the circuit's own departure slots on event days.
- Decide when you want to leave. Say whether it is the chequered flag, the podium or later, so the slot can be arranged.
- Remember daylight. A landing after dark needs a lit site at both ends, so evening returns are planned around daylight.
- Mind the Battersea hours. London Heliport at Battersea is normally open until 19:30 on weekdays and 18:00 at weekends, with extensions by prior arrangement. Race Sunday falls at a weekend, so a late return may need an extension arranged in advance.
- Keep a fallback. If a slot is not available at your first choice, tell us what you would accept.
The flight home takes about the same time as the flight out, and a car can meet you in London if you ask us to arrange one. A useful test is to imagine the race finishing later than expected or the walk back being slower. If your plan still works with an extra half hour in it, it is a sound plan. If it only works with no delay at all, ask us for a later window or a different slot while the choice is still open. If part of your group prefers the road in either direction, Executive Global Travel, a separate company with its own prices, offers a chauffeur to Silverstone with all-day availability.

What does it cost, and how do you start?
A return flight from London Heliport at Battersea starts from £14,950 + VAT, and the flight is about 20 to 25 minutes. From Denham aerodrome the flight takes about 25 minutes, and a return in an AS355 starts from £12,995 + VAT for up to 5 passengers, subject to weights. Details are on helicopter to Silverstone cost, and the booking sequence is in our 2027 British Grand Prix helicopter booking guide.
To begin, send an enquiry with your date, passenger numbers, departure point and ticket type, and we will build the day backwards from your seat.
Frequently asked questions
What time should I arrive at Silverstone on race Sunday by helicopter?
The circuit allocates arrival slots on event days, so your time depends on the slot it confirms. Give us a window and the time you need to be in your seat. We request the nearest slot and leave a margin before the session you care about.
How do I get from the heliport to the circuit seats?
A handling team meets you and escorts you to a waiting vehicle. Our sister-site guidance describes passengers being transferred to their hospitality or grandstand, and a walk of about five to ten minutes between pad and paddock. Tell us your ticket type so we can confirm the route.
Can I leave straight after the race?
Often, yes, but it depends on the circuit's departure slots, daylight and Battersea opening hours. London Heliport is normally open until 18:00 at weekends, with extensions by prior arrangement. Tell us when you want to leave when you book, not on the day.
How much luggage can I bring?
Luggage space is limited and varies with the helicopter and the number of passengers. A soft bag each is easy. If you want to bring something larger, such as a hard case, tell us when you ask for the quote so we can check it.
What if the weather stops the flight?
We check the forecast with you the day before and again on the morning. If the flight is cancelled because of the weather, you pay nothing. We tell you early if a flight looks doubtful so you can make another plan, such as a chauffeur by road.
Does Silverstone provide a drop-off point for cars?
No. Silverstone states that it does not provide a drop-off facility at the circuit, and it warns that parking is limited, roads are busy and visitors should allow at least an extra hour. A helicopter lands at the circuit heliport instead.
